I thought this was a nice followup for yesterday's post. Our mail-order Painted Lady butterflies just became chrysalises. I like how you can see the body segments in the foreground chrysalis and the impression of wings and eyes in the large in-focus chrysalis.

In personal news, my sons and I are going to California for a long weekend. My maternal aunt is marrying and we're going out to help celebrate. I of course, will be bringing the camera and computer. Posted by Picasa

WOW!!! What awesome pics! I love them!

I found your link over at San Nakji's blog. I am very impressed with your talent.

May I link your blog on mine? I would love to get others to come see your lovely work.

*smiles*

I wish you had pics of calla lilies. They are my favorite.

Thanks so much! I'd seen your pic on his site. Small internet world, eh?

Sure, link away, the more the merrier! 8)

Calla Lilies are very pretty, but I only seem to see them around here at Easter time and that's in the florist shops. I wonder if our climate doesn't work for them. Ah, yes, they like boggy, acidic soil and warm temperatures -- zone 8 (aka Texas). Here in Colorado we're zone 4, or in mild winters a 5. We're more than 5k feet up with a rainfall of about 18in/year. Of course compared to New Mexico (where I grew up), this feels quite humid.

Irises, though, we have irises coming out our *****!

This is just awesome. Not only as a record of natural history, but also the composition is so perfect, with two of them together.

Are you checking them every dawn? I guess very soon (matter of a few days) the butterflies will be out. Will you shoot a full series of butterfly emerging from the cocoon? I guess 1 day before they emerge the walls of the pupa will be transluent, so you can plan your next morning (maybe as early as 4:30 am, depending on weather!).

Have a nice trip.

amazing photos! always admired people who could photograph as well as you do.
followed your link from San Nakji's blog.
since you are into maths, just wanted to ask you if you have heard of vedic maths. it is this really cool science mentioned in Hindu scriptures that makes solving problems very easy. look it up. i believe there is a website called vedicmaths.com not sure though.

Thanks everyone! I'm really glad this picture struck a chord.

Kousik: It turned out that they all emerged in the morning and we arrived back in Colorado in the afternoon. Guess I'll need to send away for some more! My husband said that they emerged really quickly -- he'd look away and there would be another two out.

Deepa: Vedic maths? No, I hadn't heard of that branch -- but Ganesh will open the doors, eh? I'm slightly familiar with the Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, and the Rig Vedas among others, but I haven't had the pleasure of looking into vedic maths. Will check it out ASAP!

regzgz: Glad you liked!
